Employee Spotlight: Meet Dave – 25 Years at Oscar Mayer

At Oscar Mayer, the people behind the scenes are what truly keep the business moving. From production to engineering, every role plays a part in delivering the meals that reach millions of people across the UK.

In our latest Employee Spotlight, we’re introducing Dave from our Engineering team, who has been part of the Oscar Mayer family for nearly 25 years.

A Career Built at Oscar Mayer

Dave first joined Oscar Mayer as a Machine Minder, working on the packing lines repairing equipment and ensuring production could continue running smoothly.

Over the years, his role evolved as he gained new skills and experience across the business. Dave spent many years working in End of Line operations, where he was responsible for checking finished products, scanning them into the system, and ensuring everything was correctly processed before moving into cold storage.

When the COVID pandemic arrived, Dave stepped into a champion role, supporting the site during a challenging time for the business.

From there, his journey continued into Health & Safety, before eventually moving into his current role within the Engineering team.

Today, Dave works across the site carrying out a wide variety of maintenance and repair work.

No Two Days Are the Same

One of the things Dave enjoys most about his role is the variety.

From fixing doors and repairing equipment to handling plumbing work or maintaining site infrastructure, the job keeps him constantly on the move.

As Dave puts it:

“Every day is different. We’re here, there and everywhere – it keeps things interesting.”

It’s this variety that has kept the role engaging for him over the years.

Building Skills Along the Way

Throughout his career at Oscar Mayer, Dave has built up a wide range of practical skills and qualifications.

These include:

• NVQ in Machine Minding

• Forklift truck licence

• Experience in plumbing and building work

• Site maintenance and engineering support

His experience across multiple departments has given him a deep understanding of how the site operates.

The People Make the Difference

While the work itself is varied and rewarding, Dave says the people he works with are a big reason he has stayed with the company for so long.

“There are some really good staff here – people you can get on with.”

Strong teamwork and collaboration are something that many colleagues say makes Oscar Mayer a great place to work.

Looking Ahead

With retirement on the horizon in the next few years, Dave says he’s in no rush to leave.

In fact, he hopes to continue working for as long as he can.

“I’ll probably carry on as long as I can. I really enjoy what I do. Not everyone can say that, but I can.”
